Introduction to the Ciudad Soil & Water Conservation District Mill Levy Referendum for Land, Water, and Natural Resource Conservation
Ciudad Soil and Water Conservation District (Ciudad SWCD) is proposing an annual levy up to .25 mills for natural resource and agriculture conservation, water protection, wildfire reduction, wildlife preservation, equitable access to the outdoors, and the general welfare of Ciudad SWCD residents.
Ciudad SWCD's Board of Supervisors passed a resolution on July 15th, 2024 to propose the annual levy. The New Mexico Soil & Water Conservation Commission approved the Ciudad SWCD's mill levy referendum on August 1st, 2024. Ballot Information
The following ballot title and ballot question has been submitted to the Bernalillo, Sandoval, and Santa Fe County Clerks. Qualified voters of the District will have the opportunity to cast their votes for the proposed mill levy at the general election on November 5, 2024.
Ballot Title: Ciudad Soil and Water Conservation District Mill Levy for land, water, and natural resources conservation
Ballot Question: Shall the duly elected Ciudad Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors establish a levy of up to 0.25 mills to: protect drinking water sources and the healthof rivers and streams by improving stormwater and floodplain management; reduce the risk of wildfire for our communities by improving the health of our forests, including the Sandia and Manzano Forests; restore wildlife habitat, including along the Rio Grande; preserve agricultural land by partnering with local farmers to promote healthy soil practices; restore and conserve natural areas and open spaces to provide equitable access to the outdoors; and provide natural resources education for youth and adults, with all revenues and expenditures subject to an independent annual audit?
